The Terms & Conditions of CostaRica - RentalCar Rental Car Service
General Conditions:
- The minimum rental duration is 24 hours.
- The minimum age for drivers is 21 years old.
- The driver must possess both valid passport and driver's license.
- The primary driver must be the owner of the credit card used for booking the car (additional drivers can be authorized for a very small daily fee).
- All vehicles must remain within Costa Rica. You may not exit the country with a rental car.
Rates & Refund Policy:
- All rates include unlimited mileage for all vehicles.
- The daily rate is the amount paid for each 24 hours.
- Rental contracts of up to 6 days are calculated using the “Daily Rate”.
- The "Weekly Rate" applies to rentals exceeding 7 days.
- Gas is not included in either “Daily” or “Weekly” rates.
- Rental rates do not cover any other charges that you may incur such as parking, fees for traffic violations, or tolls and missing items.
- All prepaid reservations are non-refundable.
Foreign Driver's License validity:
A foreign drivers license is valid for 3 months within Costa Rica. If you are staying longer than 3 months then you must obtain a Costa Rican driver's license to rent or drive a car.
Additional Drivers:
An additional driver can be specified on the rental contract for an extra cost of $3 per day.
Extra Hours:
There is a sixty minute grace period for vehicle return. After such time an extra $15 will be charged to the renter for each hour beyond the expected return time. After 3 - three hours a full-day fee will be charged.
Payment Method:
CostaRica - RentalCar accepts all major Credit Cards (American Express, Visa, Master Card, etc.) as payment. All prepaid reservations are non-refundable. Other charges will be reflected on your rental contract.
Deposits:
Some vehicles will require a deposit. The deposit amount will range from $950 to $1500 depending on the vehicle. This deposit plus the estimated rental cost will be charged to your credit card.
Rental Rates Do Not Include:
- Gas.
- Others expenses (toll, traffic fees, etc).
- Additional Drivers.
- GPS.
- Additional Insurances.
Traffic rules & Recommendations:
For a safe and pleasant driving experience in Costa Rica, please read the following information:
- Drive on the right side of the road.
- The highway speed limit is 55 mph (90 km/h), please respect this limit.
- After an accident do not move the vehicle until the police and the insurance inspector have arrived and notify the car rental agency immediately. Do not leave the car alone.
- Be wary, especially at night when you are driving in the rainy season.
- Never leave anything of value in your car and keep it parked in safe areas.
- You cannot cross into Nicaragua or Panama with rented vehicles.
- There are vehicle restrictions for downtown San José and it surroundings to help control traffic. During the weekdays, only cars with the following last number on the registration tag may be operated within the city

Friday 9 & 0
There are no vehicular restrictions on weekends or for all Rental Cars.
